Each session focuses on a timely topic in engineering, technical operations, compliance, infrastructure, or shared resources relevant to community and public radio stations across the RMCR network.

June 18, 2026 – 3pm-4pm Mountain Time

The June Third Thursdays at Three session focused on remote access and monitoring for RMCR member stations. Rob Rawls from KSUT and Eric Scace from KVCU/Radio 1190 shared practical approaches for prioritizing which equipment needs remote access, building useful monitoring dashboards, managing passwords and documentation, and balancing remote access with station security policies. The conversation also touched on backup power, network tools, site documentation, and shared learning across RMCR stations.

May 21, 2026 – 3pm-4pm Mountain Time

The first Third Thursdays at Three session brought RMCR engineers and operations contacts together to recap key lessons from the 2026 Public Radio Engineering Conference and the NAB Show. Topics included NPR’s upcoming ContentDepot Edge system, remote monitoring tools, cybersecurity risks for connected broadcast equipment, audio processing best practices, the upcoming FCC translator window, PMI/PRX resources, and opportunities for shared engineering support across RMCR member stations.

Third Thursdays at Three

Overview

Join us every third Thursday at 3:00 p.m. Mountain Time for RMCR Open Office Hours. Each session will feature one or two invited experts who will lead a conversation on a specific topic relevant to RMCR member station engineers and operations staff.

Topics may include broadcast engineering practices, remote monitoring, tower site access, documentation, automation systems, FCC compliance, emergency preparedness, equipment planning, shared resources, or other operational issues facing member stations.

These sessions are designed to be practical, conversational, and member-driven. Participants will have time to ask questions, share station-specific challenges, learn from peers, and identify opportunities for collaboration across the RMCR network.

July 16th 2026 – 3 p.m.- 4 p.m. Mountain Time

The July Third Thursdays at Three session will focus on timely FCC legal and compliance issues for RMCR member stations, with special attention to the upcoming 2026 NCE FM Translator Filing Window. FCC attorney Ernest T. Sanchez of The Sanchez Law Firm will share what stations should know as they consider new translator opportunities, technical expansion, and filing timelines.

The session will also include an update on the FCC’s new EAS cybersecurity requirements, including what is currently known and how stations may need to prepare operationally and technically. RMCR engineers, operations staff, general managers, and anyone involved in compliance, technical planning, or station operations are encouraged to attend.

The Colorado State Capitol

In 2001, RMCR, then known as High Country Community Radio Coalition (HCCRC) launched the Capitol Coverage Project, featuring daily news and feature reports during the annual sessions of the Colorado General Assembly. Initial funding for the project came from contributions from participating stations as well as from the Bohemian Foundation, the Rose Community Foundation, and the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado.

KGNU, KOTO, KVNF, KRFC, KRZA, KAFM, KBUT, KDNK, KAJX, KDUR

In 2006, KRCC joined HCCRC, bringing significant additional funds that made it possible to hire a full-time reporter at the State Capitol.

Launch of the Capitol News Alliance:

In late 2024, the Capitol News Alliance launched as a collaboration between KUNC News, Colorado Public Radio, Rocky Mountain PBS, and The Colorado Sun. Content is shared with Rocky Mountain Community Radio and other news organizations across the state. The Alliance is funded in part by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Capitol News Alliance reporting is distributed to Rocky Mountain Community Radio stations at no cost. Stations can communicate directly with the Capitol reporter to request coverage of legislation and legislators impacting their listening areas. The RMCR managing editor maintains regular contact with the Capitol News Alliance reporter and managing editor.
